I've come to love the song and this record in particular

Ten Easy Pieces by Jimmy Webb

It's a terrible lyric, but maybe any other lyric wouldn't be an improvement?

Sometimes nonsense is exactly what's required for an audience to divine their own meaning from a song.

I'm actually a fan of Jimmy Webb. Just about a week ago I put him in my singer/songwriter chart. Although I'm still not sure about MacArthur Park, I know for a fact that a lot of his other songs are great

The Jimmy Webb reference spurred my memory.

Glen Campbell's last album, Ghost on the Canvas (2011), of original material was positively brilliant; chock full of excellent songs (and I say this as a dedicated country music hater).

But the title cut had this positively awkward lyric jammed in:

"In between here and there, there is a place that we can grow
The spirits make love in the wheat field with crows"

Hmmm. Do the spirits make love with each other? Or with the crows? Either way it's kind of awkward. Heh heh

Which version do you think is great?

The original. The one by Richard Harris. Donna Summer’s version was okay but not more. The reason is that while Harris probably was dead serious when he is singing it, the whole thing sounds like a parody. Camp maybe is the word. I love the way he is trying to sound like a great singer. It really moves me the the one second makes me laugh the next. Whereas Donna is a great singer but she does not really add something special to the song.

Yeah. I actually like the record as a whole better than her singing. I rather like the music itself.

"The purpose of a woman is to love her man"
- Kylie Minogue in "Kids" with Robbie Williams. It's a rockin' pop song with bits of "Superstition" and excellent modern production, but that one obnoxious lyric leaves a dark cloud over the entire track and directly reminds me of Wayne Fontana and The Mindbender's abominably sexist and heteronormative song "The Game of Love."

"Imma ride in that pussy like a stroller" - Jamie XX's Good Times (I Know there's Gonna Be)

"I feel like me and taylor might still have sex, why I made that bitch famous"n - Kanye's Famous

these are also my favorite lyrics of all time

literally lyrical shitposting

I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way
I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way

Take a straight and stronger course
To the corner of your life
Make the white queen run so fast
She hasn't got time to make you a wife

'Cause its time is time in time with your time
And its news is captured
For the queen to use

Move me on to any black square
Use me any time you want
Just remember that the goal
Is for us all to capture all we want
(Move me on to any black square)
Ey, yea, yea, yea

Don't surround yourself with yourself
Move on back two squares
Send that Instant Karma to me
Initial it with loving care
(Don't surround yourself with yourself)

'Cause its time is time in time with your time
And its news is captured
For the queen to use

Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda
(Don't surround yourself with yourself)

Don't surround yourself with yourself
(Don't surround yourself)
Move on back two squares
Send that Instant Karma to me
(Send that Instant Karma to me)
Initial it with loving care
(Don't surround yourself)

'Cause its time is time in time with your time
And its news is captured
For the queen to use

Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda
(All we are saying)
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda
(Is give peace a chance)
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda
(All we are saying)
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda
(Is give peace a chance)
