One of Sabbath's best, I've always found this to be very underrated. Ronnie's vocals are soaring here, and this might be my favorite record he ever recorded, although Rainbow Rising might disagree. Heaven & Hell is so powerful. I turn that shit up whenever it comes on during GTA 4.

If I recall correctly, I thought I saw Bill Ward say he was so coked out during the recording of this record that he doesn't remember laying down a single drum track. Which is quite impressive as there are some very strong drum tracks here.

Greatest...
Metal...
Album...
EVER!

Sabbath's best. Dio turned out to be the perfect match for Iommi's doom-y, detuned growl.

Iommi's best lead work as well. Both melodic and fleet-fingered.

And by far Geezer's best bass lines ever. Just listen to Wishing Well. Dude absolutely kills it on the 4-string. THE metal master bassist before the arrival of of Harris and Maiden.

8 songs, every one an absolute winner. Not a single bit of filler or even a wasted note.

This is, and always will be, the gold standard. A perfect storm of talent and somehow still greater than the sum of its parts. Not much from 1980 I still cotton to, but this definitely stands the test of time.

I may have to give this one another chance. I was exclusively an Ozzy guy, and stopped listening for the most part after Never Say Die, but had all the albums up through Mob Rules. I’ve only just begun to appreciate Dio many years later, more recently. Thanks for the reminder!
