I'm planning to do a new custom chart of the best debut albums of all time. Now some are obvious;
Led Zeppelins 1st album or The Stones Roses 1st album. That's pretty straight forward but;
Is the 1st album by Crosby, Stills & Nash a debut? It's the 1st album by these guys together but they were all in very successful bands before getting together or Neil Young's 1st album? He made a number of albums with Buffalo Springfield before his 1st solo album.
Your thoughts would be appreciated as I'm a little in two minds about this.
I mean you could argue for Crosby Stills Nash, and it wouldn't be wrong exactly, but I'd be more interested in the first recorded appearance of a performer. Like how Pharoah Sanders - Tauhid is the debut recording with Sonny Sharrock.

Thanks Tap. That was my initial thinking but I happened to listen to the 1st CS&N album on the way into work this morning and it got me thinking. I think that I'm going to go with the 1st recorded appearance as you suggest and see how I go.
