Amongst those on the list to add includes; Radiohead (is that going too far)

radiohead? things i'd call them before i'd call them a prog band: alternative, pop, britpop, idm, avant garde, punk, post-punk, dream pop, ambient, jazz, grunge, art rock, rock, classical, blues, r&b, hip-hop, folk, country, fusion, hair metal....

seriously though, this isn't the first time i've seen someone online call radiohead prog. am i missing something? paranoid android is the only song of their's that gets "proggy", and i don't even think that's prog.

The exact boundaries of what is or isn't prog are different for everyone, even those who are the most knowlegeable prog heads in the world will disagree on a lot of cases.

The ProgArchives site is an excellent place to get insight from folks who really, really know prog. I mean, those guys are hyperobsessive about prog and know even the most intimate technical details of even the most obscure pieces of anything that could even be considered by anybody to be prog. They have subdivided prog into dozens of sub-sub-genres and their knowledge of what should/shouldn't fit into any of them is astounding.

Whenever something has certain key but limited elements of prog (and there are many.... not all elements associated with prog need be present for something to be considered prog), they throw it into one of two sort of "other" buckets labeled simply as "prog-related" or "crossover prog." Radiohead is listed in the latter, which makes sense as it they are a crossover from any or all of the other subgenres you listed, and have incorporated elements of prog, especially experimentalism, into their sound.

Full on prog? Nah. But prog-ish in a way? Sure.

I would agree with the author. But a other good progressive band is Rush.
