It’s the first record of its kind, but not quite the masterpiece that incredible artwork suggests. It’s upstaged by The Gilded Palace Of Sin and Gene Clark’s White Light. But there’s still some good cuts. “I Am A Pilgrim” and “Hickory Wind” are my personal favorites. “The Christian Life” is far too overt in theme to deem listenable.

This album is masterful. It stuns me when people dismiss something like this as ordinary.

And get the reissue with the bonus tracks, which I usually hate. But the bonus tracks here feature more of Gram than you hear on the regular release. These songs are amazing. The harmonies are perfect. This becomes better each year...the mark of a truly great album.
