As requested, I am posting a poll to determine what more people want to do next: a return to Get To Know A Top 10 for several months or a new Collaborative Diary focused on a year of music (the 50s as a whole have also been suggested). Please read the poll carefully and vote accordingly.

For anyone who is new, here is the most recent Get To Know A Top 10 and here is the most recent Collaborative Diary.

I'm for either or, but I also suppose that we'd have to figure out what year we'd want to do for the Collaborative diary after this poll. Very Happy

I'm happy with either or both... would just prefer a specific year rather than a decade for the collab....don't care what year though.

Judging by how much time you guys spent on the collaborative diary, shouldn't it be possible to run both concurrently?

I think the length of time the collaborative diary took wasn't ideal, and contributed to it running out of steam. Hence the reduction from five to three nominees per person if we do it again.

And I don't think I'll have the bandwidth to do both concurrently.

Likewise.

I recently tried to embark on the 50’s, starting from 1950, but found it really hard, because most music wasn’t in LP form. I started just compiling a mega playlist for each year, of songs. Had to search discogs and other places to determine when things were actually released.

I'd be interested in a 50s one as well. Yeah, 12" pop LPs (not counting Broadway soundtracks) didn't become standard till 1955-56. Many of the better known 10" LPs were rereleased as 12" LPs after 1955, using additional tracks from the sessions or singles to fill them out. For instance, I'm almost positive no official Charlie Parker 12" album was released in his lifetime.

What I find so fascinating about the 50s is the melting pot of Miles Davis, Shostakovich, and Little Richard.

But yeah, I suppose this site does have a format limitation. I just care about the music... haha. I mean having said all this, there's a pretty good collection of albums in the 50s, even if singles were a more popular format of the time for "pop music".

Looks like a tie, so I'll break it. Get To Know A Top 10 will be back in November, with the poll going up around October 20th or so. In the meantime we have a fun tournament in the games section courtesy of CGD.
