One of those albums that are both overrated and underrated. Overrated by the general public as being the "go to" Metallica album, yet underrated by more dedicated fanbase claiming it was a sell out.
The truth is, as in most cases, somewhere in between. For me personally, this album is half best ever Metallica track, half uninspired filler songs. And most of those fillers are concentrated on the back end of the album. If Nothing Else Matters was the final track and the album had just the first eight song, it would be much better and possibly my favourite Metallica album.
As it stands it's in the third place, behind Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets, and above ...And Justice For All (which I feel is a tad overrated by their fanbase).
Oh, and the production is apsolutely sublime, everything sounds so big and powerful.
