It's stark and it took a few listens to warm to this one but now I think it's truly great. The songs; the voice the production- all excellent. Ocean is surely one of the few great auteurs left in popular music.

Good album. Not as amazing as channel ORANGE, but what a follow-up to it. The only thing I dislike about it is how it shaped the pop-landscape afterwards, with so much worthless stomach-churning "experimental original" dream-pop-artists.

There was a stretch where I would listen to this every day. It's been a little while since I've gone through it, though. Is it album of the decade? No. But it's a damn fine record.

Track picks
3. Pink + White
6. Skyline To
7. Self Control
9. Nights
13. Close To You

Frank Ocean always strikes me as a notable singles artist but all his long-players have fallen a bit short, Don't quite get the more messianic hype around him though this is a solid release- though again better in parts than the whole.

It is a pretty good album with obviously great production values and good vocals, but I've never really gotten the hype behind it. It's a pleasant listen, and it's a competent record, but nothing about it really stands out to make it one of the decade's best.
Then again I've never been able to connect with R&B on an emotional level so my opinion might be influenced by my own limitations as a listener.
It could benefit from cutting some of the bottom half songs which make the album drag a bit.
