Also the Kelly Lee Owens album is one of the best things I've heard last year, glad you liked it. In a somewhat similar vein, I'd suggest new Jessy Lanza.

All The Time by Jessy Lanza

And reporting back on this rec, I really enjoyed it. The production is dope and Lanza's vocals complement it well. The weakness is songwriting, but it's atmospheric enough to compensate for the shakiness there.

Recent not-so-obscure listens

The Man, The King, The Girl - Deerhoof
Peng! - Stereolab (I discovered these guys thanks to my weekly Spotify playlist. Awesome stuff!)
Kacey Musgraves - Same Trailer, Different Park
Dolly Parton - Coat of Many Colours

Also listened to bits and bobs from other female artists, including Laura Nyro, Alison Krauss, Imogen Heap and Laura Marling.

Nice! Would you recommend the Deerhoof album or not?

Stereolab are certainly the artist that I own the most albums by!
I own everything, except I haven't bought this years new release yet. Dots and Loops (1997) is the one that is highest placed in my chart.

It's the last day for the month but

The Sundays - Reading Writing and Arithmetic (1990)
Neneh Cherry - Raw Like Sushi (1989)
Michelle Shocked - Short Sharp Shocked (1988)

are three other all-time great albums that spring to mind.

I love Stereolab! And I think I agree that Dots And Loops is their best.

Three good albums in that list, especially The Sundays.
