40th anniversary bash put on by Fire Records. All day, starting at 2pm and carried on into the wee hours I'm sure. I left for my last train at around 11.
Hosted by the fabulous Stewart Lee, the line up was;
Josephine Foster
Monde UFO
Immaterial Possession
Steve Wynn & Jason Victor (Dream Syndicate)
Steve Wynn & Jason Victor (Dream Syndicate) W Jane Weaver
Bas Jan
Graham Reynolds
Marta Del Grandi
Kristin Hersh
Islet
Giant Sand
Giant Syndicate (Giant Sand + Steve & Jason & Kristin)
Stellar line up and what a day. I'm thinking of posting some more in-depth thoughts about the day in subsequent posts |
Next up were Monde UFO, an LA-based duo of Ray Monde and Kris Chau.
really hard to pin down this band which i like. Veered off into psychedelia, space rock, jazz. A little in the vain of Spacemen 3, who are also on Fire Records, but in their own way, rather unique. I really liked their section of the gig. Really interesting and challenging stuff

Spent last night at The Forge in Camden (London) listening to the stellar Soul / Jazz / Funk of Delvon Lamarr.
Absolutely fantastic musicians playing with passion and technique and great interplay with the audience. Lovely night at this great venue.

A Trip, A Stumble, A Fall Down On Your ...sick Steve his new album
At Pryzm in Kingston, South London. One of a number of UK "gigs" this month. This one hosted by the stellar Banquet Records
Not the greatest venue for seeing an act, but a top notch sound so swings and roundabouts.
Steve was on great form as usual and the new tracks are up to his usual standard. Looking forward to hearing the album when it's released today

Great day yesterday. Release day signing at a record shop in SW London and then the launch gig at the boiler room (pryzm) also in Sw London. What a gig.
I’ve followed the goats since the start of the band around 9 years ago. They have moved from the post punk fury of the debut album to a style that encompassed multi genre. Hard to pin down but multi layered soundscapes abound with elements of the original band still evident with throwing muses, new order, early era pink floyd and seriously heavy drums.
The gig was in the round which added to the fabulous atmosphere of the gig. Gig of the year so far? Probably. If you get the chance, check out goat girl.
