I never said that hip hop, electronic, are any non-traditional form of music wasn't "real" to me. I gave one hypothetical type of hip hop that would lay the foundation for a type of sound I might like, one that that included "performed" instruments. Actually, I don't think I even used the word "real" in any of my posts in this thread.

yes... i guess that was 40footwolf..

The thing about performance is, it needs to be practiced to be perfected. And during that process, not only is the ability to play each song perfected, but the song itself. During the process of practicing a song, it becomes more clear what works in the songwriting and what doesn't, especially with all of the subtle differences that separate the ordinary from the extraordinary. The process is usually missed with entirely computerized music.

Again, i think the process as you describe, practicing a song multiple times reveals what works and what doesn't, is about the same, but more insular since a lot of hip-hop tracks and electronic songs created on a computer are often produced by one person. It takes a lot of practice to hit the right notes, meld separate tracks together, blend sounds, etc. on a computer.

Difficulty is not the point. Nor the amount of time spent.

What IS the point then? Your thesis is inscrutable.

The difference between listening to a song and re-listening to a song then making changes along the way - in contrast to performing and re-performing a song, then making changes along the way. I'm saying one usually turns out better than the other, though I say "usually" implying the possibility that that is not always the case.

So you don't think hip-hop and electronic artists preform their music in the studio? I can tell you, once again, that you are flatly mistaken.

"Creating rap music in the studio is a less fully realized way of creating music than creating rock music in the studio."

"In what sense?"

"It just IS okay?!?!??"

I couldn't answer that question. I don't know of any under rated rap albums, the beastie boy albums I've heard are good, Kid Rock is good as well. I think Jay-Z and Outkast are over rated...every time their music comes up in random play I'm nearly deleting them. The albums almost feel driven by good singles.

Only Outkast and Kanye West are underrated. The rest is fine IMO.
