It's always bothered me that so many fans of this album are so vehemently against the rest of Pink Floyd's work. It's fine to not think Dark Side of the Moon is the greatest album ever made (which it basically is), but you shouldn't take it as a badge of uncool shame to find value in those mid-era concept albums.
That being said, though, this album is amazing, and definitely one of the most important releases of 1967.

Best Pink Floyd album by miles and miles. Interstellar Overdrive is still getting rotation from me. _________________

I go back and forth between liking this and loving it. I mostly love it, because when it hits, it blows me away. "Astronomy Domine," in my opinion, is the strongest guitar work of anything the group ever did.
Track picks
1. Astronomy Domine
4. Flaming
5. Pow R. Toc H.
7. Interstellar Overdrive
11. Bike _________________ Inversion Verses

Yeah, many people who like this album dislike the rest of the discography and vice versa. I am of the second team. I find this their worst album of their classic period. I guess it depends on the type of music you like. At least this makes more people like Pink Floyd one way or another.

my brother made me a cassette copy of Piper at the Gates when I was really little. It was one of the first albums I ever heard and loved. A couple decades later and it's still among my all time favorite records. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

i think there's a difference between disliking the rest of the discography because it's "uncool" and disliking the rest of the discography just because you happen to dislike it. i think it's very clear that this album is sonically very distinct from the rest of the discography. there's a playfulness here that goes away on the other records; the spacey sections feel like journeys with multiple stops and not just extended, static atmospheres; etc. thus, it makes perfect sense to me that, as the poster above me mentioned, many people like this and dislike the discography and vice versa. i think it's really cynical to constantly assume that people who have the flip side opinion of many of a band's acolytes are doing it for attention. all the reasons the majority of the fanbase has to dislike the album might be reasons it's enjoyable for others.
oh to disclose my bias, i don't like any Pink Floyd, but this album is the least bad one, in my eyes.

As much as I'm a Pink Floyd fanboy, I can mostly agree with this. Syd was a very unique presence that wasn't really replicated without him. Although Saucerful of Secrets really isn't that far off sonically, and Syd did play on 3 of the songs.
I always find it odder when people only like Umma Gumma and then call the rest of Pink Floyd's stuff pretentious. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Great album. Interstellar Overdrive, Astronomy Domine, and Matilda Mother are my favourites on here.
Lucifer Sam is a track pick for this album, and that kind of pisses me off. It's one of the album's weakest points.
All that said, I like Saucerful of Secrets more.
