Ok, so I've been listening to a lot of music fro this band called The Mars Volta, specifically their albums De-Loused In The Comatorium and Frances The Mute. These albums are modern masterpieces! Does anyone else love them as much as I do?

They are mind blowing. The musicality (time signatures, complex chord progressions, etc.) is unparalleled.
A bit over the top for day to day listening for me though. I guess I have a different approach to the aesthetic of "best".

I really like some of their tracks, but a great deal of it is just too much.
It can feel like the song sections don't fit together. Maybe I've been coloured by all the negative reviews on Pitchfork...

It's like every project they make I'm not as interested in. At the Drive-In>The Mars Voltla > Bosnian Rainbows and Antemasque was just a disappointment. Especially since Antemasque would (apparently) have been a way for us to see an At the Drive In, Blink, and RHCP supergroup which would've been bizarre and interesting. _________________

Haha I love threads like this. I've never actively listened to The Mars Volta (and don't particularly plan to) but these bold assertions are what make music discussions fun. _________________
