It has nothing to do with the hipsters. It has to do with the way the album is ranked with only 14 votes.
Anyhow, pretty overrated 2011 release, with a few good tracks, but nothing really standing out.
I enjoy the different styles from one song to another (the Beach Boys opener, the hard rocker, the ballad...).
I even remember seeing it compared to a mix tape somewhere. _________________ I'll be your plastic toy.

It has nothing to do with the hipsters. |
I humbly apologize.

The selected album is the one having the most rank points in the last 24 hours (as ranked in people's charts by site members), not including any albums that have recently been selected. The average rating doesn't affect which album is selected (the rankings on BEA are based on chart appearances and not ratings).

I happen to think variety is a good thing. so I don't see that restricting it to 500 albums would be a good thing. I also don't expect people to agree with all of the choices (even if they were manually selected, people would still disagree!)
At least this way we are guaranteed a few surprises - good and bad - and it helps generate debate, which is most of the point of doing this.

Finally an album that elicits more than general praise!
My main problem with this album is Owens' vocals. It's the aural equivalent of, like, wet wads of paper towels being thrown at your ears. I love the way he sang on some tracks on Album. His whiny punk sneer on "Lust For Life" was enjoyable.
Also, the song-writing on this is sort of weak just because it seems like these are all songs that have been done before, and Girls aren't making it anymore interesting.
