This is not a best of 60's thread or anything. I'm looking for albums that I may not necessarily have heard of during the flower power era. Any suggestions are welcome. thanks _________________ And I stare at the sun.

The Great Society is pretty good. It was Grace Slick's band before she joined the Plane. The Collector's Item compilation has the original "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love."
Begin by The Millennium, The United States of America- S/T, Cauldron by Fifty Foot Hose, Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators by 13th Floor Elevators, Illuminations by Buffy Sainte-Marie...just to name a few. Are you looking for a certain sound? Silver Apples and Red Krayola were 60s, but they didn't really sound like anything else from that era.

I didn't realize there was a Woodstock sound. For example, what would you say The Who and Crosby Stills and Nash have in common besides a time period?

If questioning the validity of this statement makes me a prick, so be it.

if you are looking to expand on that Jefferson/Byrds west coast 60's sound, try listening to Forever Changes by Love if you haven't heard it yet- one of my all time favorites. Or as joannajewsom suggested- the dazzling self titled album by the United States of America.

Ehhh that Iron Butterfly record has got to be one of the most inadequate slices of rotten pizza i've ever tasted. The title track is interesting for about three minutes, but side B? Yikes. Its usually cited as influential acid rock, but to me it sounds like my friends and I jamming after doing cocaine all night.
