I really enjoy both, but one is from a tired rock star, and the other is a fresh sound from a (then) upcoming band which are now creating their best work.
Wrecking Ball is the 17th studio album recorded by Bruce Springsteen and he shows no signs of slowing down.
The album was recorded following death of longtime Springsteen cohort: the Big Man, saxophonist Clarence Clemens. It features Clemens' last recordings on the title track and Land of Hope and Dreams.
This loss inspired Springsteen to be more daring on record that he had been in a long time incorporating diverse sounds of folk, rock, soul, funk, and even hip hop.
The album was nominated for Best Album at the Grammy Awards and listed as Rolling Stone's Album of the Year for 2012.
Here is a live version of the second to last track on the album called "Land of Hope and Dreams". This comes from the 2001 DVD Live in New York City. Bruce wrote this track back in 1999 to celebrate the reunion of the E Street Band and they played it as the closer of all the Reunion Tour stops (and for several tours after). He tried to record a studio version several times but wasn't satisfied until he put it on Wrecking Ball as a tribute to Clarence Clemens.
