y is among the most uncomfortable viewing experiences I've ever had. The more I watch it, the creepier it becomes. Is it about auto-erotic asphyxiation? Death via childbirth? Childbirth via death? I don't think I want to know. Beautiful set design too.
No Surprises is pretty good, but y damaged me irreversibly so I have to go with that.
y is really strangely captivating and the imagery therein is fantastic. You could keep watching it forever and still get something out of it.
Also those eyelash extensions make her eyes look really freaky, though it is possible they always look that way. XD
There's different interpretations of the song "No Surprises" but the one probably most commonly agreed upon is that of a man once full of lust for the risks of life and not just becoming a drone, who then decides that he does want a quiet life and one that isn't too uncomfortable. The video shows Thom in a bubble - comfortable with his existence until suddenly the tank fills up with water and he is made to just sit in it unable to go anywhere or breathe, put out of his comfort zone. The look on his face when the water drains out is a perfect mix of resentment at the fact he was put through that and exhilaration that he went through it. A feeling we can't know unless we take risks in life.
No Surprises is one of those examples where video is just a perfect match for the song. I like y as I like all iamamiwhoami videos, but no way I'm voting against No Surprises.
Only time I felt bad for Thom Yorke... Wondering how many takes they did to get it right ? Or maybe he's really good at holding his breath. It's a strange clip 'cause the melody's so beautiful and you see this guys almost drowning in a fish bowl ... _________________ That's right, I'm an Asshole
