There are a few seriously incredible songs on this, but there's almost just as much 'Mr Robinson's Quango' type of shit. It's a really uneven album, but the good bits make it really worth listening to.

I found this a real let-down after playing Parklife to death. The last thing I wanted was more of the same. It's not completely awful but contains some of their least interesting material. Ernold Same about sums it up. The Universal and Yuko & Hiro are great though.

Ok, it's not that good after playing Parklife to death, and Ernold Same is really a good example for a weak song on an anyway good album.
I like The Great Escape, and I find this a good album even when it is amongst their weakest releases - it says how great the band's whole catalogue is. The album starts off strong then it becomes weaker near the end except the final track.

My personal favourites from it are Best Days, Charmless Man, Fade Away, The Universal, He Thoughts of Cars and Yuko and Hiro.

p.s. I like the little booklet of the album. There is a huge picture of a boot, the feet of a jumping person, looots of water and then a shark in the bottom of the water. On the other side of the booklet there are the lyrics. I always like booklets which include the lyrics. It's well-designed.

Oh man, how did I miss out He Thought Of Cars? Not only is it the best song here, it's one of my favourite songs, period.
