"A Grammy Award (originally called Gramophone Award) — or Grammy — is an accolade by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The annual awards ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a widely viewed televised ceremony. It is the music equivalent to the Emmy Awards for television, the Tony Awards for stage, and the Academy Awards for film."--Wikipedia

None of the awards, critics, lists, charts, including BEA, are perfect. Nevertheless, the Grammies are still the top awards in recorded music (at least in the USA). They are not based upon sales but on nominations and subsequent votes of the members of NARAS.

All the BEA elitists can just dream about how good their personal charts are during the Grammy show.

Thanks, Naples, I wouldn't have known what a Grammy was if you hadn't posted that definition. Rolling Eyes

You're welcome, but my post was mainly directed at Shankly.

Who cares? The Grammy's are a joke and irrelevant to serious music fans. The awards are based way more on sales and popularity than artistry and music quality. I don't know why anyone continues to take the Grammy's seriously.

The GRAMMYs are the only peer-presented award to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position.

That last sentence is a joke, right? Artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in recording is everything the Grammies is NOT about. Any award where Katy Perry is nominated for the highest honor is not really an award.

No joke. You may disagree with the nominees and winners but they were nominated and voted upon by the members. Have you recorded or produced any albums lately?

The recording industry's most prestigious award, the GRAMMY, is presented annually by The Recording Academy. A GRAMMY is awarded by The Recording Academy's voting membership to honor excellence in the recording arts and sciences. It is truly a peer honor, awarded by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical achievement, not sales or chart positions (GRAMMY Awards Voting Process). The annual GRAMMY Awards presentation brings together thousands of creative and technical professionals in the recording industry from all over the world.

I'll agree with that. Lady Gaga knows how to do a publicity stunt right. Reminds me a bit of the cocoon scene in Spinal Tap though. I hope she is able to get out of the egg. Laughing
