I'm not going to second-guess your first few selections. Loved the Little Richard version of I Saw Her Standing There. But I will point out that the Cookies version of Chains was one of the 10 best songs of 1962. (I have a list). I was sorry to see that one disqualified.

Love the concept. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Awesome. Glad to see you on board with this! Could be fun!

Oh, yeah...that Cookies version of Chains is fantastic. But it came before The Beatles version, so yeah. Disqualified.

Album: Please Please Me
Track 7: Please Please Me

This one has been covered plenty of times, so there were some choices to make here. For me, there were two versions that I found of particular interest. Link Wray recorded a straight up instrumental version that's pretty damn cool, but the one I ultimately came back to was this one. I wanted the lyrics. And maybe because I love her voice, and maybe because it sounds more modern than the other versions. It lacks the harmonies that The Beatles brought to it (she sings it almost by herself), but it's also got some nice sounding guitar work and synths (which you don't hear on Beatles songs).

So, I give you Blondie. Their version of "Please Please Me" was kind of a rarity...it was released only as a bonus track on the Japanese version of their 2011 album Panic Of Girls.

Agreed. Blondie's was the one I found also.

Am I allowed to guess the selections in advance? (Sticking to the track list and not going past where you're going next) Or would you rather I waited for you to post first?

You can absolutely guess ahead of time. But I would prefer to not go more than the next song ahead.

Album: Please Please Me
Track 8: Love Me Do

"Love Me Do" was a huge hit for The Beatles, and it's been covered a whole lot of times. I was struggling to pick the right one here, and then I heard the easy winner. This is Flaco Jimenez from San Antonio. I was sold right away by John's harmonica intro being played by Jimenez on the accordion. This song with a Tex-Mex feel, some tasty guitar licks, and guest harmonies by none other than Buck Owens makes this a true delight. The track is from his 2000 album Sleepytown (not on BEA). Not your typical Beatles cover, for sure.

Enjoy!

Album: Please Please Me
Track 9: P.S. I Love You

This is a pure McCartney song. Has that classic early 60's clean sound to it. Almost doo-wop harmonies. "you, you, you".

So I've picked a guy named Peter Lipa, otherwise known as The Father Of Slovak Jazz. He recorded a strange album in 2003 called Beatles In Blue(s) (not on BEA), which is chock full of weird versions of Beatles songs. This is his take on "P.S. I Love You", as you've probably never heard or imagined it.
