IMO, if 70% of people have the same f avorite song on an album then chances are the album is probably not a classic and top of the mountain album.

I wish to apply this theory to the White album and I would appreciate your vote.

Thank You Very Happy

And of course to state the obvious comments would be great also.

Happiness Is a Warm Gun but I don't think I agree with your hypothesis.

Well, to put it more accurately I will say it like this.

The more songs on an album that people have as their favorite one IMO goes a long way in making it a true quality classic album. Would you not say that there is some validity to this statement?

.

Sort of, I see what your getting at.

If twelve people each like a different track on an album, I don't think that would be the sole determinant of greatness: They each might dislike the other tracks.

I'm not saying that it is the "sole determinant" but I do feel, in most cases, it's a strong indicator of a classic album. Very Happy

So if twelve people each like a different track and dislike the other tracks, is that a strong indicator of a classic album? I would suggest it is an album of mixed reviews. Your poll unfortunately only allows us to choose one track (I know it’s not your fault that you couldn't use check boxes to allow choosing more than one.) Kind of reminds me of the shrimp treadmill test.

But THIS is more important than the shrimp treadmill test

You will find it very to find 12 people who call 12 different songs their favorite off a... say a Streophonics album. It won't be impossible but you will have a lot easier job finding them on a more acclaimed one.

If your point is that there are many great tracks on a great album, I agree (assuming an album has many tracks).

Im so tired.

And I have to disagree, even thought its true it is an strong determinator the fact that an album its so good each of their songs appeal to different people. But an album its a piece of art that becomes a classic when every single piece of it works in the correct way so the whole thing sound perfect. Take Pink Floyd for example, their albums have some tracks that if you listen alone they are not that great, but inside the whole context of the album they become perfect.
