I love The Cure but never really like A Forest that much.

Wondered how it might fare in a Cure singles poll - probably quite well but I'd have Charlotte Sometimes or Primary over A Forest all day long.

Back on topic, another song I dislike but is very popular to many is Jeff Beck's "Hi Ho Silver Lining".

There will be many lists but this one is interesting - David Bowie is number one and number one hundred...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/what-t...vid-bowie/

A few selections...

10 - R.E.M - Everybody Hurts

No thank you - I think maybe they were thinking of Strange Currencies - much better song IMO - Everybody Hurts is truly depressing

17 - U2 - One

Really?

18 - Beach Boys - God Only Knows

All day long!

36 - Elvis Costello - Alison

Love it to pieces but surprised to see it listed

49 - Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

Hell yeah

89 - Run - Snow Patrol

FFS stop it!

Primary is really very far from being a classic. Horrible song in my opinion. A least A Forest has an original tone and structure (the problem is the flat melody).
Charlotte Sometimes is lovely. If only they had put it in place of Primary (or of the similar and equally not good Doubt) on that otherwise perfect album Faith...

I wasn't citing Primary as a classic of any kind. As an offshoot of this tree, I was simply mentioning it as another Cure single up against A Forest. Faith is most definitely my favourite Cure album.

Wonderwall.

I want to die whenever this song comes on in public. I'm British so it happens now and then.

I can go on and on and on forever, but House of the Rising Sun is just a great record. I don't know how one would Define a classic,
But whether it's a classic or not it's a great record. And Stairway to Heaven i
pretty good too. Even if you don't love it, it's not hard to see why it's a classic.

Here's my picks:

Purple Rain. Prince
With or Without You. U2
Beat It. Michael Jackson
Born in the USA. Bruce Springsteen
Comfortably Numb. Pink Floyd

The Cure made exactly one song I think is classic. Let's Go to Bed. I don't like anything they did after that.
