Ok so here's the final rules.

We'll do 50. 100 sounded good but I'm sitting at 92 right now, and although I could bring it to 100, that's over 90% of the actor-director teams on that Wiki list that I'm familiar enough with. Hardly a "best of" list when everyone gets a trophy.

If anyone has any other two actor combinations, they must be like Pegg & Frost with Wright and have been in every film together. Otherwise, separate them. If it's really too close to call, list them side by side and there's a good chance they stay right next to each other on the final list if everyone else who votes for them feels the same.

49. Akira Kurosawa-Takashi Shimura
50. Wes Anderson-Bill Murray

As exhaustive as that Wikipedia list is, it can create a false sense of security because there are omissions. There's no listing for Preston Sturges, even though he had a large unofficial stock company of supporting actors who appeared in at least three movies, including William Demarest and Franklin Pangborn. Another biggie is Jean Renoir-Jean Gabin (Grand Illusion, La Bete humaine and French Cancan). Only one actor is listed for Mikio Naruse, even though the actor who starred in his two most famous films -- Floating Clouds and When a Woman Ascends the Stairs -- as well as 10 others isn't included.

Thanks for pointing that out. I noticed Renoir-Gabin when scrolling through your list and realized this as I don't recall seeing it when I went through that page.

Speaking of Jarmusch-Waits, have you seen the trailer for that new zombie film? Looks like a blast. Tom Waits and Iggy Pop are are both favorites of mine so I'm stoked but the whole cast looks fun.

Great lists. I'll try to narrow mine down to 50 tonight.

Not gonna lie, after going through the lists I'm rather shocked some of my picks have only appeared on my list. No Herzog-Kinski or Kazan-Brando for anyone else? Weird.

Yeah, I love how they've jibed over the years.

As for the new film, I just hope critics don't take it too seriously. Jarmusch is obviously just going for a whole lotta fun here. The fact it's opening Cannes is pretty cool too. Still disappointed Paterson didn't snag the Palme... don't think he has much of a shot with this one. Speaking of, line-up should be out sometime this week.

Couldn't do Herzog-Kinski because I've only seen two of their collaborations -- a major shortcoming, I know. I do plan to watch a third in the next few weeks and add them. Kazan-Brando were on my longlist, but because of Viva Zapata (oddly, one of my father's favorite movies), they didn't quite make it.
