This album made my top-25 on one listen, and has stayed there for almost 2 years now. The songs are mostly silly, but the sound and cohesiveness of the album are phenomenal. I had discounted the Lips completely because the only song of theirs I'd heard prior was a ridiculous piece of garbage. But I certainly missed out because of the preconception.

I've only given The Soft Bulletin one or two listens, but it didn't impress me. It's on my list of albums to give another shot to, though.

On one listen?? Wow, it took me more than five to have an opinion of it. Now I love it! "In the Morning of the Magicians" is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard.

The only great album The Flaming Lips ever produced Surprised Wayyyy better than that Soft Bulletin nonsense.

The rest of their discography ranges from good to mediocre. (Though I haven't heard all of Embryonic).

I don't understand how you could like one and not the other. Yoshimi is just a slightly poppier more approachable version of Bulletin, which is the far superior album.

It's the silliness. The silliness is what makes Yoshimi so great - even better than Bulletin, I'd say (which is still REALLY great).

It isn't obnoxiously silly, but more joyously silly - it gets the perfect silly ratio.

Hmm... well, Mystics was my first Lips album, heard it back when it came out and some hippy kid I knew kept listening to it on repeat. AT THE TIME I thought it was, like, the greatest thing ever, but now that years have past and I am grown and matured and have perspective, I don't find it quite as up to par as some of their other albums.

Why?
