Funny no one has stated the obvious, yet:
Pablo Honey
Not in the sense that it is an awful album
but in the sense that compared to what followed, it probably IS the worst album Radiohead has come up with as a whole.
And this, despite the fact that it of course includes a couple of true gems.

The obvious ones are often the hardest to remember. Think

Rush. They have since produced 17 more albums (ranging from decent to incredible, at least in my eyes) and only one was worse than their debut for me. It's not...awful, it's just unoriginal and cliche. Some of the tunes are fun, at least.

I thought about the first RUSH album, but the truth is, that is not one of the worst debut albums in my opinion.

Even though I know it's not supposed 2 be a good album. It nonetheless actually is.

Besides, it has the song Working man on it Very Happy

To be honest I sort of agree with you, I prefer pretty much any Massive Attack album over Blue Lines. Apart from Unfinished Sympathy and maybe Safe From Harm I find the rest of the album is quite forgettable, definitely not as good as all the journalists 'Best Ever' lists always like to make out. Still, wouldn't call it bad though.

As for Pablo Honey I'm not sure if it qualifies either, I mean it's arguably the weakest Radiohead album (although I still love it) but I'm sort of looking for albums which aswell as being the weakest of an artists discography are also bad, not just bad relative to the others, bad in general.

It's hard because I don't think many great artists produced bad debuts, but there's the challenge.

I agree. Especially in the brave new world we now live in.

If your first album isn't good, there will not be any second album.

Record companies are not willing 2 take chances on bands like they once were. Now it's all about instant cash in where as in the past a band might not even turn a profit till their 4th. album.

Ok, backtracking here, as soon as I wrote this I thought I may have made a mistake. Just been listening to Blue Lines and I take it all back! Still not sure whether it's better than Protection or Mezzanine but it is very good.
