All mancunians should be excluded from this thread.
It's not fair for the rest of us

And loads more... It is not quite so easy for my elected home of New Zealand, but will give that some thought too.

New Zealand is a small country and has a total population smaller than most major cities... so rather than being Wellington specific I have gone for the whole country instead Very Happy

Flight of the Conchords
The Chills
Crowded House
Split Enz
Kimbra
Gin Wigmore
Ladyhawke
The Verlaines
Die!Die!Die!
Garageland
OMC

There are more but I think they are world famous in New Zealand rather than actually world famous...

Well, if I pull a mancsoulie and expand my territory to ridiculous proportions (that is, Illinois (58,000 sq.miles - 13 million people compared to NZ's 103,000 sq.miles - 4 million people)) there is no point talking about artists anymore. Genres work better:

Chicago Blues
Dixieland Chicago
Chicago Soul
Chicago Hardcore
Chicago House
Chi-Town

Sticking to the immediate area though...umm...not so much:

Bix Beiderbecke
David Ackles

Yeah. That's about it.

Ahhhhh come on - I did a City then a Country... And Illinois is still 3 times the population size of NZ and has a city like Chicago slap bang in the middle of it. Confused That's like me doing the English North-West!!!! Very Happy

My dad is a big Bix Biederbecke fan...

I am originally from Adelaide, South Australia. Claims to fame are Cold Chisel, Sia, Hilltop Hoods and Leader Cheetah.

Now I am in Mount Gambier...

Dave Graney seems to be the only one with some familiarity.
