If you want to include simply morose, sorrowful (but not necessarily sad), wistful, regretful, or whatever, then some not mentioned off the top of my head:
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper
True Colors - also Cyndi Lauper
Here Comes the Rain Again - The Eurythmics
Tuesday's Gone - Lynard Skynard
Pain - Catherine Wheel
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
She Talks To Angels - The Black Crowes
Allentown - Billy Joel
Only Love Can Break A Heart - Gene Pitney
oops - lunchtime...sad songs wait now. _________________ <(: @ >

Geek the Girl is a pretty heavy album. "Cry Wolf" is the song that hits me every time.

I forgot The Carpenters. My parents had them on in the car all the time when I was young (on tape, yes magic 80s!).
And when I listen to "Tunic (Song for Karen)" by Sonic Youth, I can't help think what a beautifully sad voice she had.

But seriously, "Where No Endings End" by Keren Ann is really sad.
