You know it's funny because an old teacher of mine and I were playing around with the brains in jar theory.

I'd like to think that we are brains in jars, at least we serve some purpose in that case.

Exactly.

If this is what I know it's what I know; if I can't perceive what controls me it might as well not exist.

And what purpose would that be? Jarred brains hardly brighten the place up, that's why we have plasma balls.

And if life were a simulation, what difference would it make?

Imagine if we are brains in jars of people who are brains in jars, this could have been going on for trillions of years already.

How would a brain in a jar put a brain in a jar? If everyone's a brain in a jar, who's doing the dusting?

Well, the idea is that someone created a different reality for each set of brains of jars, so basically this idea would mean that no one exists except for the first people who put brains in jars and the original set of brains in jars.

Don't go all emo.

We all have the potential to make our own purposes in our perceived realities - you don't need to be an experiment.

Well, I don't care whether I serve a purpose or not because it doesn't matter, but if we are all brains in jars, then we know our purpose.

Yeah, I got that but I still don't see how a brain in a jar serves a purpose when a brain's most obvious purpose would seem to be controlling a body. The original brain jarrer appears to be the only individual serving any sort of purpose, even if it's only to put brains in jars.

The purpose would depend on the reason for someone putting our brains into the jar, whether it means our purpose is to be studied or our purpose is just being play toys and so on.
