People care how many user points they have?

Plus it would discourage people from voiceing their true opinions from fear of downvotes.

Those are details. Maybe we could make posts worth more points by upvotes, but you can't lose points for downvotes, or something. The idea to have control over your points as currency is pretty cool, though, mostly for tournaments and such.

I ment as in the proposed currency. After I got my chart to 100 albums, I stopped giving a shit about points.

I'm not suggesting that people's user scores become a form of currency, but rather that a separate system of currency (BEA points) be introduced, and if a user so desires, he/she may exchange BEA points for userscore (or for other potential awards that I have yet to think of). The only way a person could lose his/her BEA points is if the points are willingly spent or lost in a bet/game. Receiving downvotes would only result in a person not gaining additional points. All current users could receive an amount of points relative to how long they have been on BEA maybe? And all new users could receive 100 points after creating their account. (and perhaps users could purchase points if they so desire, giving AM some well deserved $)

Let's just go full reddit why don't we? "You guys ever heard of this underrated band called Radiohead??????"
Aside from that, I've seen the points system work in a few other forums I've been a part of. People gained a set amount of points for completing certain actions on the site such as posting in threads or creating entirely new threads. Users could then use those points to buy little images under their avatars or perform actions such as changing their usernames. To discourage shitposting to farm points, certain actions, such as posting in the "Games" section, were worth no points whatsoever.
If properly implemented, a points system could encourage more discussion as well as making everything just a bit more fun.
Or it could just cause more shitposting

Certain users don't get along here, this upvoting/downvoting system could easily lead to people voting based on what they think of the user rather than the comment. _________________
