I'd go with VH-1's pick..."Sailing" by Christopher Cross.
My preference from Cross is actually "Think of Laura" though. _________________ <(: @ >

Gerry Rafferty- Baker Street. An air of magic, a good guitar solo, the best (and one of the few acceptable, ie. not self indulgent) saxophone solo ever, mesmerising lyrics delivered in his unique voice, which makes you sing along, good air- instrument potential... an iconic song that most everyone knows. a song that has everything.

Probably the Butthole Surfer's "From Pittsburgh to Lebanon." You know how Ike brought the blues into the mainstream, well these guys do it agin, and better. Clocking in at 2:29, it's the perfect length; it's got hooks; it's got just enough emotion; and it brings the good times of childhood depravation to the the average listener's ear. Radio friendly unit shifter if you ask me...

I prefer "Kuntz"
Now that's a pop tune!

great subject...and one that I already have a top 50 for, but my pick for best pop song would be one of these:
"Black Pearl", Sonny Charles and the Checkmates, 1969(Phil Spector)
"They don't know", Tracy Ullman, 1983 (with Paul McCartney on bells)
'I Stand Accused", Jerry Butler, 1960
"Da Doo Ron Ron", Crystals, 1963?
"When the boys happy, the girls happy too", Four Pennies", 1963
"Lead me on", Bobby "blue" Bland, 1960

"Everything we make sounds like a pop song, even if it's different to any other pop song" - Jim Reid - The Jesus And The Mary Chain
"To me The Fall is pop music as much as Duran Duran is pop music" -Alex Kapranos - Franz Ferdinand
And I offer you all:
Sparks - This Town Is Not Big Enough for the both of us
Sparks - Amateur Hour
Sparks - Falling In love With Myself Again
...And the rest of Kimono My House
