If we used a system of tags, it wouldn't be so hard. Is this band from NY or Baltimore? If they're related to both, just tag both!

That's not a bad idea actually, provided there wasn't a crazy amount of tags necessary. _________________

While we're in the suggestions thread, has anyone else been seeing a lot of posts appearing blank lately? I can't see what junodog4 said unless I attempt to quote it, this isn't the first case of this I've seen in recent days. _________________

Oh, yeah, I can't see Juno's post either, but I just quoted it and I saw it.

Apologies, there was a blank space at the end of the URL which I've removed that was causing the post to be blank (I'll make a fix)

In terms of the suggestion, the last time we discussed this, the problem was agreeing on whether we should have nations or sovereign states, & agreeing on definitions.
Quebec and the Basques were mentioned as examples which might open the floodgates to any other country that might have a claim for appearing on the list. Quoting Saoirse from that other thread to get to the crux of the argument "Basically, how we separate nationality depends on how we define nationality. If we go by sovereign-state status, which has clearly defined territories and physical borders, than no the nations under the United Kingdom sovereign control would still be listed as United Kingdom. However, if we define it by nation, which is a much more ambiguous term and doesn't always have clearly distinguished borders, than that would get a bit trickier in how we separate other countries that define themselves as their own nations (not states) who are still listed under it's sovereign-state status. However, then yes Scotland, Northern Island, Wales and England would each be listed separately."
I also posted this is response on the previous thread (and it still stands): "At some stage, BEA will capture this [countries] in more detail and also add the city of origin so that we could then use the data to drill into bands from Seattle, Liverpool, Bristol etc and allow us to plot the data geo-spatially. Personally, I'd prefer to wait until this is added before revising the list of countries too much (I think as well there might be other affected countries in BEA's country list, apart from those in the UK). There are also a few knock-on effects that make this quite a bit of work and I'd prefer to do this as a single unit of work, rather than have to re-visit it multiple times (particularly, given the time constraints I am operating under at the moment)."
