okay so I've mocked up a couple of screenshots. Bear in mind they are incredibly rough and that the colour scheme/typeface/everything means nothing at this point and is not a decision (and certainly not the site name lol). This is just to get the idea across to people. I'm gonna mention once again how fantastic CellarDoor's idea is despite some very very vague similarites in other unconnected pieces.
okay firstly:

now imagine for a second Achtung Baby is a new album for the sake of why 2 reviews are written in such close time to each other. The other point to note with if it was a new album is that (at this point (this is obviously up for discusiion)) they are only written by site staff. Now as you can see you have 2 (very badly written ) reviews for the same album that are quite opposing and have completely contrasting final ratings, i've used the grade system in the example obviously because that's what I want but that still hasn't been discussed yet and is far from set in stone. You can imagine that the F is a 0 and the A+ is a 100. Ands that the C+ is a 50 (just for those that are wondering when the grading system is given numerical values it does work out to an accurate average). So rather than have a whole panel of people rating the 2 people who reviewed the album rate the album and that rating is then filtered down to the overall average which is what other sites/publications would record the site as giving the album.

Okay this second one ties into the gradually growing database for older albums idea. With older albums non-staff users would be able to submit their reviews (see right side panel) and it may or may not be published to the discretion of the Editors (not the band) obviously to keep quality control. Also note that if an album has only 1 review the overall grade remains what that one review grade it.
SO i'll reiterate again none of this is certain/set in stone all is up for change/dispute if necessary. Thoughts?

Unknown Pleasures is definitely NOT a C.
That CellarDoor is a usurper !! _________________ I'll be your plastic toy.

That double display is kind of what I had in mind. Looks great !!
The grade seems unnecessary though. Most double reviews will turn out C+ average, which won't mean much in the end.
The reviews should be left open to vote, and an average grade should appear for each review.
There could be some kind of arrow (like for a weight) in the middle, leaning to one side or another _________________ I'll be your plastic toy.

I like look, and concept. Of course, as you said, not final colours, but I like the shapes used, and the feel. I like how the reviews surround the album. Well thought out Jhereko
2 things I want to bring up though,
1. I don't think we should do the albums by grade-system. Just looks a bit weird to me. It's a simpler rating style, but that might just be my opinion. Maybe use 10/10 star ratings? Like NME? The review could only be out of either 1/10, 2/10, 3/10, 4/10, 5/10, etc...But when the average comes up, it's in point system, like Pitchfork-kinda.
IE:
3/10 on one side, 8/10 on the other, would mean a 5.5 Average.
Opinions?
2. Cellar would never give Unkown pleasures a 'C' _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

Yes. But music is like bacon , The sizzle makes you want to get out of bed.
Also, the Unknown Pleasures review imitation gave me an idea. How about everyone participating would have their own niche or genre? That would be the first review, then the second review could be by whoever.
Does this make sense? I don't really know how to explain an example, but basically:
Say my niche was hip-hop (which I wouldn't mind btw), i would review hip-hop albums, and the second review could be written by the person with the metal-niche, and their view on the album.
This is just the start of my concept, but it could be elaborated. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

I know, we could have the other people who are going to be reviewers give their grades but not reviews. an average rating isn't very good if it's only got two grades going into it. _________________

Unless they come from the former BEA super elite reviewers! |
Cynic or sarcastic I don't quite know.
