I still need to listen to this. Love some of his other records. No More Wig For Ohio is wonderfully bizarre and playful

It so happens I don't even know this one. Noted, and will listen.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - Nanda Collection |
Ha, thats great!
It never ceases to amaze me how people, who are generally into more obscure and challenging music genres seem to like the sugary and incredibly upbeat music of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Nanda Collection even has a generally positive reception on RYM, which is pretty rare for a mainstream pop album. Not that I'm complaining, it's one of my top 3 albums of the year, but it just really surprises me.

Question: Would The Poe listen to the album if she was American instead of Japanese? (which obviously automatically makes it better than the pop fluff of the western mainstream.)

Possibly, the genius behind Nanda Collection is Yasutaka Nakata, one of the best producers in the industry right now. I think as far as pop music goes, there is no one in the West is able to produce ear-worm inducing hooks that manage to feel both fresh and "out-there" as well as him. His sound is pretty unique. I honestly don't think it would matter if Kyary were American instead.
I recommend the album to anyone by the way. I know J-pop has a bad reputation in the West but I think it deserves a fair listen since it's above everything else in the genre. Heck, even Pitchfork reviewed it and gave it a decent rating, that counts for something right?

I'm not the one to deny the quality of the album, I think it's a great one and in my current top 20 of the year. But I just found it amusing to see that Poe seems to like it, considering his usual tastes. So that question came naturally.
