I just realized I read the new name wrong. I thought the new name was 'Preoccupied' (like, the name of the band was preoccupied..) which made sense. Preoccupations doesn't make sense
If they had intended to be provocative or hurtful this would be a different story. This is 4 white guys who admit they didn't know about the history, and seemingly only chose the name because it sounded cool. I would say it's tacky if they at least had some kind of point to it, but it's the lack of that that made it shitty.
I really liked the name Viet Cong. Preoccupations is the lamest name in the whole history of music. _________________ "I feel like for the last two years there’s been sort of a sonic evolution happening and I’ve been experimenting more and more."
if you're going to be stupid enough to name your band after a communist regime that waged a terrible war for a period of over 20 years that killed almost 2.5 million people, you deserve some flak for it
"waged" pahahah

as for the name it sucks the biggest donkey balls in music ever, fucking Preoccupations is the blandest most pure dull name i could think of... especially for a post-punk band lol _________________
Guys we're talking about a genre with a band called The The, Preoccupations is a totally OK ish name. Not inspiring maybe but again I really don't see why this matters _________________

i agree, The United States of America was a really offensive name for a band, but i suppose the 60's were just a different time.
