I think the question is rather : is there objectivity in art?

When it comes to evaluating quality in art, no there isn't. There is no band or album that is objectively good or objectively bad.

It's a mix, obviously. But when you say "When it comes to evaluating quality in art, no there isn't [objectivity], this is contradictory, as the word "evaluating" suppose a part of objectivity. As I said, without objectivity, no discussion, no forum, no BEA. No SHARING.

In what way does evaluating quality imply objectivity? When you evaluate the quality of something, you're determining it's value, and that's something that's entirely subjective to you. No one album is objectively good or objectively bad, no work of art at all is objectively good or bad.

No, but some albums are better than others Smile As I said it's a duality. Even for the artist when he creates, I think. He or she has in mind a certain common ground of taste, some criteria of beauty. There is a subjective tension towards beauty.

He was one of the Beatles, but was dropped from the band before they made it big.

Track A - A recording of me taking a dump.

Track B - Fourth movement of Beethoven's 9th.

Track B is better. There is obviously some accounting for taste.

Yes, his musical style was a curious combination of influences, from Howlin' Wolf, to Shostakovich, to Olivier Messaien, to Stockhausen, to John Coltrane and La Monte Young -- often all at the same time, over the course of a single composition. While Lennon was kind of into what he was going for, Scaruffi clashed too much with McCartney, which led to his ousting before the recording and release of the jaw-dropping and revolutionary Please Please Me. Ever since, Scaruffi has had a bit of a vendetta against The Beatles, because they beat him to the punch of changing music forever, and did so without him and his ideas.
