People who discredit modern country music tend to be too focused on the contemporary country that airs on channels like GAC, CMT, and on radio stations that play formulaic drivel.
I know there's such a thing as Modern Bluegrass, but it's just awful. Alison Krauss and shit. It's way too slow and sounds like every other piece of shit record that comes out.
You obviously haven't heard enough of Alison Krauss & Union Station if you're going to say that. She's got some insanely talented musicians in her band and plenty of it isn't slow.
And there's plenty of good bluegrass around right now. The Seldom Scene is still kicking around last I heard, they're great. I've always loved this Dylan cover they do
Yes! All great choices as well. I'll add to that that Ricky Skaggs, one of the best mandolin players in history, is still kicking around making music too
He did this awesome version of "Old Enough" with The Raconteurs a few years back
