Also I love how we've turned this into a NMH appreciation thread. |
Right on.
And yeah that song is great too.

I've tried listening to Neutral Milk Hotel many times, but I couldn't get into anything besides the tracks Holland, 1945 and Everything Is. Maybe I'll pick up a copy of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and give it another try.

I've been meaning to re-listen to Aeroplane recently. It's something I never particularly liked, but I never particularly disliked it either. I've always thought it was extremely overrated, but it's been a while since I've put it on. About to give it a spin. Maybe this time something will "click", or whatever. Probably not though.

I wouldn't consider myself a fanatic as some people are, but I do love In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and like On Avery Island quite a bit too.

Well I'm thoroughly enjoying this album far more than I ever have before, for whatever reason. I think that previously I'd been turned off by the hype, and subsequently already had my cynic ears on before I would sit down to listen to it. I'm lying in bed with my headphones on, chainsmoking and really enjoying this album. I'm also way more familiar with the songs than I'd realised, although it makes sense given how many times I've tried to get into this. I can't say for sure that this isn't a one time thing, and that when I listen to it tomorrow the feeling of utter indifference won't return, but I think I'm finally coming around to ITAOTS. I hope so. Either way, for this brief moment in time, this album is awesome.

It is strange, from the people who I know who enjoy this album (or worship it), it either seems to be an immediate reaction, or a very slow burning appreciation. I was in the former camp, it was love at first listen, but I've heard much to the contrary. Perhaps it may be something that you have to listen to in just the right frame of mind.

I never had much hope for NMH as I've never really got into folk. _________________ Back after a while

Avery Island: I think I've listened to it, but never got really interested in it for some reason.
Aeroplane: Quite a good album, though overrated.

I think they're pretty dang average.
Nothing too overly wrong with them, but I can never seem to love them either.
