Wow, it's been way too long since I listened to this album, I forgot how amazing it is. Yeah, it's a masterpiece for sure, and it connects so powerfully for me. He laid himself pretty bare here, I put it mentally in the same place as Pink Moon where the album may not lyrically reference the struggles he'd been having, but it comes across so much just in the tone of the music. Along with that, the album puts the listener in Van's world so much, for the people who get the album it lends to a truly intimate experience. Really obvious why this is widely considered one of the best albums ever made.

Ugh... how can't I see this. Clearly everyone thinks this is great but I'm just sitting here on my ass "appreciating" it... well it's mediocre at best. I still don't understand why everyone loves it so much.

I was right there with you on my first couple listens and I could NOT stand his voice, but something about it kept calling me back and it finally clicked with me.

For a few short moments I thought we'd found an album everyone on BEA agreed was at least good.

What

Okay, I could MAYBE see why it wouldn't be somebody's musical style, but how in holy hell can someone justify calling the lyrics on that album naïve and simplistic?
