I think almost all big music review sites are bound to get pretty gross at one point or another, since they (probably by necessity) have to pander to this demographic or that, and end up marginalizing large portions of the musical world, or just saying stupid annoying things. The biases of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Nme for example are quite obvious and people have already mentioned them.

Of course we need our general music music news from somewhere, and they all probably do that somewhat competently for the kinds of music they focus on, I hope...

I don't really have a problem with most music forums I've read, provided they are talking about something that interests me. /mu/ is disgusting though. Oh and I'll never forget reading someone on some classical forum claim that all kinds of music not western classical are just "aesthetic window dressing". People were arguing against him, but others were defending this and it was cringeworthy.

It was bad but, to be fair /mu/ was in decline before death grips hit the scene.

Basically /mu/is in love with Fantano and when he gave 10/10 to exmilitary people just lost their shit. There was a point in time where there would be like 3 different threads about the death grips on the front page. Most of these threads had very little discussion, if you tried to voice an opinion of the death grips that was not masturbatory you would be greeted with "2deep4u" and "#NOIDED". Generally these threads degraded into a massive circle jerk and people spamming awful death grip related memes. Speaking as someone who dislikes their music and absolutely fucking hates their fans and the members of the band, this pretty much invalidated /mu/'s opinion on music.

Then those cunts decided to viral no love deep web on /mu/ with some shitty half baked, babbies first ARG and it got even worse...

Then when the death grips acted like entitled 14 year old man-children with the no love deep web release /mu/ felt a personal connection to them because most people from /mu/ are entitled man-children.

Pitchfork. I mean, it deletes or alternates older reviews in order to be likable and cool for its community for fuck's sake. It's like it wants to be Rolling Stone (still, it doesn't suck that much though).

YES! Did you know my blog post is on their wikipedia page for uncovering that crap about deleting reviews. A highlight of my blogging days.
