No other album I've ever heard sounds remotely like this, and it's lovely.

That's surprising. but everything hits us differently. I like Johnston, Smog and Palace Brothers, but nowhere near the level I love NMH.
It's also worth checking out The Music Tapes, which is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Julian Koster of NMH. His albums have a very genuine playful feel like Daniel Johnston, although very very different.

It took me a while to fully grasp this record. I thought it was very much over-rated initially. This was a real grower on me though. I may like it but I don't hail it as one of the greatest albums of all time like other folks. Jeff Mangum's voice is one entity on its own.
