The fact that BEA will grow is unstopable.so it's usless not to try to make BEA better.
Groups can make a big improvement.specially the competition that will be made.

Yeah I agree. But it could've been helpful if there was a poll or sth.

The decision is not ours. It's albummaster's decision. No matter what your poll says.

Yeah but albummaster usually agrees with the users doesn't he?
He wants to make BEA be a better place for the users.

My understanding is that AM usually goes with what works for the site, if it adds value to the site, and if the work that would go into making the change will be worth the return.

I would ask:

1) What would groups actually add to the site that isn't already here on the forums and comment areas on charts, albums and songs?

2) Your poll will show approximately the number of votes that equal the number of people who regularly participate in the forums. These are people who are already using the social functions that exist...but they are also a minority of the members on the site. You and I are here already interacting, and we would probably utilize groups. Your vote will likely reflect that. But would having groups really encourage more people to be visible participants on BEA? What about the thousands who will NOT vote?

3) How much work would it be for AM to add this to the site and make it work properly?

4) What, if any, effect would anything to do with groups have on chart scoring or the user point system? And how easy would it be to make those changes work with the systems already in place?

5) Is it really fair to attempt to pressure AM into making changes you want by way of polling? I think there's a difference between making a suggestion and seeing if it sticks and trying to force it into being with the pressure of a vote.

I can answer 4 and 5. I don't think there should be any point system for groups, and I don't think Behrus is attempting to pressure AM into making groups. I've made polls before in the suggestions forum, because I just wanted top see what people wanted. Of course, I knew the final decision was always from Album-man.

Not necessarily. I've seen AM disagree with the users quite often. Not just with my threads, but with plenty of others. I'd say it's around 50-50, but all in all there are many other functions that people are waiting for. Plus, how many groups are users going to make? One? Five? Twenty in a week? What would be the max? That's my only concern. If people make too many threads, there should be no point system because people could just make more and more groups. I'd say you should reach a certain level before making a group. 7 or 8, IMO. Even then, (take it from a guy who rushed to get to 10,000 points), there should be a max of how many threads a user can make. I'd say five. I like the idea of groups, and I think it would help raise awareness. However, I think AM's got a lot on his plate, so I abstain from the vote for now.

I agree with Behrus58 that there is a problem with new member retention. However, to be fair, I think a lot of websites struggle with that (& some much bigger sites than BEA). Are groups the answer to this problem? I'm not sure.

We've debated before about having 'champions' updating their favourite artist bios etc, but many problems were raised with that idea when it was discussed before.

As Romanelli alluded to, each change has to be assessed in terms of its overall usefulness (& fit) to BEA, & also the time that it would take to implement it. There are currently over 250 changes in the queue for development, and I'm not far off implementing a site update containing about 50 of these (mostly harvested from the forums).

Everybody's ideas really help to improve the site. Even discussing ideas that don't get implemented helps to validate what's currently happening, and even if an idea starts off as something that not everybody agrees with, with a few brains working on it in the forums, it can often change into something that gets implemented.
