That still makes NO sense. It came out before those albums... isn't it so annoying how The Rolling Stones totally ripoff Foxygen?
JMan, you know what we call it when a previous artists sounds like it's "ripping off" a newer artist? Influence. The older artist influenced the newer one. _________________

OK, OK, you're right about that. I'm just saying, for one of the first grunge albums, I really wasn't impressed.

Because it's a top 10 album of all time, imo.

Dinosaur Jr is in no way grunge.

That ain't what all the "best grunge bands" lists I've seen said. Dinosaur Jr. made quite a few of the lists.

Dinosaur Jr was before grunge. They were part of the late 80's guitar rock movement, along with bands such as Sonic Youth and Butthole Surfers. Basiclly, they are in no way a grunge band and I would discredit a list that says that they are.

Well, to be fair, you could call Dinosaur Jr. grunge and you wouldn't be too far out of the ball park. They're close enough that calling them grunge isn't too bad, though obviously they fit into other genres much better.
EDIT: Also, RYM has grunge listed as one of their genres (not their main one obviously) http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/dinosaur_jr_
And no, it's not prominent, but it isn't too far off.

I think that's a fair label. Like how The Modern Lovers are proto-punk.
