what could be better than hammered dulcimer, you ask?

well, now it's here. the double bass hammered dulcimer.

also, of concern to me. why isn't everyone and their uncle playing the hammered dulcimer?

Hehehe... I tried finding something I could hear from this... and I failed the internets. Would be interested.

Also dig the sounds of these when it comes to other bass forms:

So maybe the definition of bass is:

Frequency Range Frequency Values
Bass 60 to 250 Hz

well there's a distinction to be made between bass the frequency and bass the various forms of instrument. What I was getting at is some of electronic music bass occupies the frequency whilst partially emulating the timbre (thereby effectively functioning as the bass much in the same way a standard bass guitar would) of the instrument even if not being a direct sample or recording of it

Ah, gotcha.

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/doors-bass-players/

Interesting article about The Doors and their use of bass. I always thought it interesting that I learned they didn't have a bass guitarist, but played on the Fender Rhoades the bass part, and then I listen to some of their recordings and say... hey that's totally bass guitar! Now it makes so much sense.

"In the end, it’s true that the Doors didn’t have a bass player. They had about 20 of them."

I don't really care for this song, but it has a decent bass tone:

And that one from the Jam too.

True... that was one bass line that I though of during the pre-1970s discussion, but decided to not mention it. His bass playing is quite amazing. I'm not a Who fan, but I am a John Entwhistle fan.
