Your time on BEA trying to find some new album on the overall chart that was good has obviously been great.

I'd heard of these albums before, but only listened to them after reading about them on BEA.
Marquee Moon - Television
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson (I hate to admit it, but I think I'd somehow mixed them up and/or merged them with King Diamond in my head.)

Hey Pam, No need to be ashamed of the guilty pleasure that is 'The Final Cut'. It isn't typical Floyd but I love it none the less!

@ lethalnezzle - I got the impression before buying it that "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" was a bit of a 'Marmite' album and so I was geared up for not liking it. But there's no getting away from the emotion in the vocals! It's a bit of a crap phrase, but I really did 'get it' pretty much instantly. Very interested to hear any alternatives you can suggest though. What is the one you suggest?

I can only speak on Sufjan... I only started listening to him because of this site too. I started with "Come On Feel The Illinoise", and I think it's by far his best. Just have an open mind when you start listening. Be ready for anything, because that album specifically has a little bit of everything. Sometimes it's magnificent, sometimes it's just so so. I could never get into Age Of Adz as much, as it's a little too electronic for me. Seven Swans is much more sparse, and is mostly based around the banjo. It's a totally different experience, and if your in a laid back mood it's great. Michigan is kind of a mix between Seven Swans and Illinoise. I enjoy it, but it doesn't quit capture a certain sound/mood like the other two do.
I guess that's a long way of saying he's very good and sometimes great, but not the most consistent

Love the term 'Marmite' album. So fitting. ITAOTS fits it well... Either you love it or you hate it. Except, like Marmite, I'm kind of in the middle. I see it's beauty, and I quite like it, but I can't have too much of it.
I'm stealing your 'Marmite' usage and adding it to my lexicon.
