I remember when this album came out, the Strokes were EVERYWHERE, and the hype was bordering on near lunacy, so I never really bothered to check out their first album in it's entirity upon release. Time has been very kind to The Strokes, and checking out it recently it is a very engaging, focused and playful rock album with some great songs, particularly the near perfect Hard to Explain.

My favourite album. I was 13 when it came out and thought it was quite cool at the time but definitely not amazing. I was more into nu metal like linkin park around that time. Last nite and Hard to explain were the two strokes songs i remember hearing first and there seemed to be a lot of buzz around them and other indie/garage bands. years later when indie became huge i got into them a whole lot more and realised how amazing the album is- no bad tracks, incredibly cool, insanely catchy, brilliantly melodic and because I'm older now- wonderfully nostalgic.
