The only thing my list shares with the RS list is Daft Punk (though they have them one slot higher than me). Jason Isbell is a glaring omission from their list. I have him in the top slot; surely he fits in the top 50 somewhere.

Pretty much all of the lists I've seen so far have looked identical, and made me cringe horribly. The Quietus list was awesome though. So many albums that I'll now have to check out

Was I the only one in the forum who really liked Pure Heoine? I was surprised to find it ahead of the National's album.

I just finished it. It's awesome. That Quietus list has a ton in common with yours. After being disappointed with so much music this year, I'm now having my faith restored

If you liked it you should check out Alexander Tucker's Third Mouth (in my 2012 top 10).

Glad to see QOTSA so high. Aside from that it's alright. I've still only heard a fraction of these albums Laughing

It's a noob question, but why don't they wait till the year ends to publish these lists? Do people stop releasing music in December?

Usually radio stations and music e/mags receive advances so that, by early december, they've basically heard all the year has to offer. That's not 100% the case, but close enough for them.

Which is also why very few small releases come out in December.

Of course, it's not hard for journalists to hear 100% of the music released when they only stick to the same 100 major releases. No one has the ability to listen to everything released in a year without also having a supernatural ability to stop time

I would imagine that you don't want to go up against the onslaught of Xmas albums either.

This list was as i expected, as they and tinymixtapes (and fastnbulbous, if you're a reader) will address more of the "fringe" music than other publications, exploring more recent sub/genres and more pop-obscure albums and genres. There were a couple albums on that list that i'm tucking away in my "to listen to" list before closing out 2013, but i was surprised how many of those i've heard (already)..
