Here's mine:

001 Annie - Heartbeat (2004)

Now, that my friends, takes guts Laughing

Good song, probably the best bubblegum pop song ever, but very broad choice Shocked

My personal list of the 2000's in songs?.... Think Well. That could be pretty crazy. I could probably make it though. It'd just take too long and I would probably break down and cry. Laughing

I don't see how "My Heartbeat" is bubblegum. Pop? Sure! Bubblegum? I'm not seeing it. Especially given the poignant subtext of the lyrics.

It's bubblegum Neutral Good bubblegum. But it's bubblegum.

And what subtext? d'oh! Isn't the song just about a girl finding some guy to take home at a club?

The song is an homage to her late boyfriend, who was her musical collaborator until he died from a heart defect at age 23 before the album could be completed. Hence that repeated "feeeel my heartbeat" near the end resonates both lovingly and achingly admist the insouciant fun that she describes. It is sung from the perspective of looking back on that time in her life ("there was a time") and that final epilogue ("I won't forget greatest times I had when I was dancing with you") perfects that happy/sad dichotomy with which she excels so well. It's simply one of the most moving memorials I've ever heard in song. The entire album is likewise peppered with these little powerhouse moments and it feels like a triumph at the hands of such a devastating loss that she projects a positive outlook throughout.

I knew about the late boyfriend thing, a very sad story. Didn't know that the song was about him though Confused Either way, I like the song Cool

Yes I just looked...how can she be worse than Fallout Boy? or Matchbox 20? or Sum 41? or ICP?! or Miley Cyrus? or Billy Ray Cyrus? or Nickelback? or even Fergie? *sigh* I just don't get it. You love Annie though so that's something.

Hate isn't rational. Laughing

All I can say is that for me, her approach to music is akin to a dog in heat vigorously dry humping the legs of any poor soul who happens to pass by.
