I mean I can see how Sons of Kemet looks like a better balance to the two likely Victor's in their respective brackets (although it ain't over till the fat lady sings), but from a personal perspective I'm rather unenthused if it makes it through since the last two songs Sons have been up against were much better in my eyes, but then again that's just one schmuck's opinion. I don't think anybody's voting on the logic "What would make a more diverse finale", and again the only point in each match is to vote which song you prefer and whatever song ends up going the distance is more cumalative circumstance and shouldn't be a factor in each individual match's voting. Tl;Dr summary: take the tournament match by individual match. |
Yeah I don't think variety is a necessity, nor did I say that. It's just more fun to have, and it's too bad it didn't work out that way. _________________ Add me on RYM

ah yes, the two dimensions of music
I think it's pretty cool that a track without drums found popularity here, that seems like it would qualify as variety to me

In case it wasn’t clear (probably wasn’t), I wasn’t suggesting with a straight face that music can be reduced to those two dimensions. It was partly tongue-in-cheek. I know that from a music theory perspective those categories don’t make sense.
I guess my point was that there’s not much variety in terms of musical “accessibility.” They’re all in the mid-range from my perspective. But of course, accessibility is a nebulous and highly relative concept.
And as to drums, point well-taken. _________________ Add me on RYM

Not by the songs themselves - all three are great and two are transcendent - but by the selection or lack thereof. All of them inhabit a very similar space of being conspicuously arty but not especially challenging listens. If we look at music as a spectrum ranging from fully poppy to fully bonkers, none of them are near those poles, instead all occupying an almost aggressively tasteful median.
If Falling Into Me and/or If You Know You Know had advanced, I don't think I'd perceive this dynamic.
What do you all think? Am I totally off base or do I have a point? |
pretty baseless, IMO, I find the whole sentiment pretty ridiculous and kinda like... IDK... snooty?

Snooty? Wishing for the sake of variety that one of the two "art pop" songs had instead been replaced with Let's Eat Grandma or Pusha T... sounds closer to reverse snootiness if that exists _________________ Add me on RYM
