The unwanted soundtrack to many a car trip.
It's alright, but plays more like a compilation than an album

One of the best debut albums! Too many good songs in here to start naming them... _________________ "And can’t you see you’re in on it?

And is that not some cause

Wonderful, one of the highlights of its decade, and that's saying something. Mississippi Kid keeps it from being the flawless album it would have been otherwise, but Gimme Three Steps, the obvious closer, and more importantly Tuesday's Gone are irresistible. Possibly better than any Creedence album, though Lynyrd was far less consistent. The right chords, the right notes, the right vocals, the right everything. It's really about getting everything about classic rock just right.
Also I have literally zero idea about how it's supposed to sound like a comp. It's always sounded cohesive to me, like, not more than anything else, but certainly not less either. Actually, I'd even say more if I had to choose. So I don't get that criticism.

Try growing up in central Pennsylvania and hearing these songs blaring out of every other pickup truck that passes and you'll know what I mean. The album oscillates back and forth between upbeat pop and drawling anthems like it was made for a radio playlist. I don't dislike them, by any means, but they always sounded too consciously commercial to me.
I think they're a very good singles artist, though. I prefer their upbeat stuff over anthems like "Simple Man" and "Free Bird".

Totally one of those could-be-mistaken-for-greatest-hits deals.

Love me some Skynyrd, but The Outlaws had a much better release (Outlaws).
I find sweet home Alabama to be annoying now, people play it far too much .
