There are two great albums never made I can think of. First is the Beach Boys, Smile. However, that's kind of been made now with the release of The Smile Sessions a couple years ago.

But the other great album never made was Weezer's Songs From the Black Hole. This was supposed to be their follow-up to The Blue Album, but they abandoned it mid-production and made Pinkerton instead. Thankfully though, with the circulation of bootleg recordings over the internet, plus the home recordings of Rivers Cuomo in his Alone series, fans can now actually recreate Songs From the Black Hole themselves. So it's technically an unmade album, but it can be made and listened to by fans willing to put in the effort. I did, and it was well worth it.

That next Beatles album would have never been like that. Part of what made Lennon & McCartney work so well together was that neither of them were able to stray off of their respective deep ends. Lennon would have probably never allowed songs like "Another Day" or the awful "Come And Get It", and Paul would have likely balked at "God" and "Power To The People". George had better songs by this time as well. As for "The Lovely Linda"...it's ridiculous to think that would ever make it to a Beatles album. Might as well stitch it into a medley with "Oh Yoko".

But, ultimately, IMO, part of what makes The Beatles so endearing today is that they never made that next album that would have been less than the sum of their career, and they never got back together to make a next and lesser album. You can see in the quality of the solo albums that the decline in writing for all three was pretty soon after the breakup. George blew his wad on All Things Must Pass. John was declining during Imagine. And as for Paul...his first two albums are (on BEA) really overrated IMO...and he was making bad albums like Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway barely two years after The Beatles were done. He peaked (but just barely) as a solo artist between Band On The Run and Venus And Mars, and was permanently sub par by 1975.

A Beatles album after Abbey Road? I am confident that it would have been a sharp decline...but I also think that mostly none of the songs in that article would have been on it.

That feels like a very pessimistic view Romanelli. Some bands are still writing fantastic and passionate music with members well into their 40s. Maybe being together they would have had more new ideas. I mean Rolling Stones recorded albums every decade after The Beatles split and they are still going strong.
